Brad, do share. I mean like sure Galaxie 500 and Catharine Wheel are in the same realm but what else. I can't find much that really has a similar feel locked down.

The third song is decent

Darklands is way more listenable. I'm about to skip one of their songs right now because the first album can be a little much.

I mean similar in the most generic sense, as in when compared to all of the 80s alt/new wave/post-punk stuff that everybody has already heard. JMC are high up there, but probably not my favorite of that era of music

they are trying really hard to be the velvet underground playing white light/white heat.

you cant even begin to talk about shoegaze without mentioning jmc

a place to bury strangers is basically jmc's psychocandy for the modern era

one of the best. psychocandy is sublime, of course. been listening to darklands in the car all week.
probably after the smiths, the jesus & mary chain are the best british band of that era (in my book). i wanna wear black leather pants like jim reid.

i'd feel the same but black leather pants would be hell in new mexico. it's already hot here.

and yes, darklands is perfect for driving at night, like holy ****. Loveless was my go to night drive music, but lately it's totally shifted over.

Looks like Blake just finally got around to appreciating shoegaze, guys. It's a cool genre, definitely one I get in the mood for when I'm high school Nostalgic. Loveless and Daydream Nation are classics. Check out the self titled by Yuck and Just Fuzz by Sore Eros for contemporary stuff.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Slowdive was killer back in the day.

Yuck was really great for a while when their first album came out but I feel like it got old fast.

Same. Their first still has some solid shit, though.

I don't like it and I definitely don't even get it. What's the appeal?

Minus the Bear is chill. As Tall As Lions is pretty chill. Little Tybee is super chill. I still don't get this band. The guitar tone alone is too grating to chill me out.

EDIT: I only made it like one minute into that interview video, but that made it even worse.

neither of those have anything to do with how pretentious of a word that is when applied to music.

I love rock with noisy guitars and these guys were essential for the early shoegaze movement. Psychocandy's my favorite from them for sure, the thick distorted haze that surrounds most of that album sounds so tasty.
Also god damn it Just Like Honey worked well at the end of Lost In Translation

Cool thread, cool band. There's something about the drums at the start of Just Like Honey that really gets me. Very much like Be my Baby:

Spiritualized deserve a mention. Picked up Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space a few years ago because I liked the album art and boy was I not disappointed.
