I'm trying to write a blues song, I have come up with lyrics, I can do that quite easily but I always struggle when writing the music to accompany the lyrics, any tips??
try the old 1-4-5 thing then embellish to taste?
12 bar blues is the format for any traditional blues song, so you should go with that. Feel free to change up the types of chords though to find the right mix. Personally I like adding minor and suspended chords, but just experiment to find what your looking for.
As a general rule I like the music to sound like what I'm singing about. It's a mood sort of thing, think about what mood you portray in the lyrics and try to make that come across with the music, think about what you want to hear.
