I've angled my pick a la Paul Gilbert to get that "scraping, cello" sound which I think makes it easier to get "through" the string. However, when I'm in this position, holding my pick between my thumb and first finger, the point of my second (middle) finger sneaks up comfortably onto the first knuckle of my first finger. I think I've seen other players (maybe buckthead) play this way, but if it's a bad habit, I'd like to stop it before it really starts.
Is it detrimental to do this?
