I will be going to Australia (aka US lite) again in May to see my bb. This time we're gonna go to Melbourne. We want to book an AirBnB room.

Are these places close to downtown?

- Brunswick
- Maribyrnong valley
- St Kilda
- Clifton Hill
- Coburg

And how far away is the beach from the main parts of the city?

What are some must-go places to visit/do/eat?

...modes and scales are still useless.

My aunt & uncle live in Toorak you can go hang out with them. Sorry can't help you though I haven't been there since I was very very young

OH Wait but I can help you find good cafes. My friend lives there and eats at 2 new places every day and reviews them.

brunswick and st kilda are closest to downtown. both are tram distance to the cbd, though not walk distance. coburg and clifton hills are a bit further. maribynong is bit out of the way.

the beach is at st kilda but it's also winter here so there's that.

most people here make their food decisions based off this website

i like brunswick and st kilda a fair bit cause there's stuff to eat

I live there right now on the bottom part of Carlton and top of the cbd. I've only been to St. Kilda which is about 30 minutes by tram. There's also Brighton beach a little further down. It's definitely not beach weather right now. The average high lately has been 20-22 Celsius.

I've heard the Eureka tower is nice during sunset. I haven't done that yet.
There's tons of cafes and lane ways around Flinders Lane and Swanston. Those are pretty cool.
QV market is chill but it's mostly for tourists to buy cheap touristy stuff.
There's also the aquarium, casino, and football. Plenty of rooftop bars downtown too. I've noticed people here tend to go out almost every night.

Impeccable timing

Also Xiaoxi you're going in May. Melbourne won't have beach weather. It'll be fricken cold. You'll hop in the water and be all

Bully middle school kids for lunch money. It might take some time but hopefully you'll be able to afford a trip to Australia in a year or two

Yeah, this. Melbourne sucks for beaches in the first place, and going to the beach in late autumn is noooooo maaaaan.

Isn't it fall/winter down under?

Probably nowhere near as cold as North American fall but I wouldn't want to go swimming on the beach in 20 C degree weather.

yep, winter in Melbourne means around 12-18°C max temps. You'd have to be nuts to swim at the beach, and if you did they'd disappear.

That's beautiful weather. Maybe not swimming in the ocean weather but everything else would be great.

Well it is the driest continent apart from antarctica. It's good that only a few people live in the interior because there'd be a massive strain on resources otherwise

Wouldn't Canada be more "US lite" than Australia?

Yes

No
No

Brunswick and St Kilda are the 'cool' suburbs. Brunswick is hipster capital of Melbourne but it's got some cool bars and is a 20 minute ride into the city by tram.

There's a beach at Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and St Kilda. So 10 minutes away basically. Though it's shit weather at the moment so hardly beach weather.

City centre is cool, Brunswick and St Kilda are worth visiting. If you have a car there's loads of cool places out of the city that are worth going to because they're stunningly beautiful

Lol. Beach, you could go down the coast, probably a 2hour drive to hit some of the nicer beaches. Butt freezing.
