I just bought a Les Paul Traditional, the kind without weight relief. About 9.5 pounds I think.

I have 2 1/2" suede straps on my Stratocasters, and those get to me after a while. I can only imagine how the Les Paul is going to feel.

Any suggestions on a good comfortable strap? I was looking at Gibson's Montana, a 2.75" padded leather strap. I'd like to stay with leather or suede, and not get into synthetics.

Any replies much appreciated.

A Montana came with my 11.5 pound Les Paul and I love it. I can make it through 3 hour gigs without getting a sore shoulder.

I have a couple dozen strap-making companies bookmarked, but I almost always start looking at Levy's.

If you don't find anything there, ask again!

I keep reading about Levy on every strap thread. Sounds like the choice of UGC members.

Take a look at their 3.5" wide padded straps, too.

It'll tame that Les Paul nicely.

I really like mine.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just bought a 3.5" Levy. We'll see which gets here first, the guitar or the strap.

Actually Gibson makes a couple of great LP straps, but pricey. The Fatboy Comfort strap and the Austin comfort strap are big enough, wide enough and have memory foam in the right places...

As mentioned, they have a pretty high penetration into GCs and most other guitar stores. As with so many other things in GC, it may not be the best, but they've got the volume production to stock over 200 GC stores...

I forget what brand it is, but I use a black tweed strap. Tweed is a nice comfy material that isn't too heavy. Leather I always find digs into my shoulder too much.
