This guitar is on sale for 150 at guitar center for May, and I've been looking into getting a 7 string for a while now. Would this guitar be good enough to record metal/djent with? I was thinking of maybe throwing a DiMarzio DP706 in the bridge.

You could get better for the money. For a start, you should be looking used. The standard 7 string to start with seems to be the Ibanez 7321. I'm also thinking of getting a 7 string, and as I want a slightly longer scale length, looking at this:

I'm looking for more of a standard scale, and I'm in the usa so that websites no good, I should have specified.

Consider saving up a little for an Ibanez RG7421/7321, I have the 7421 and its great, except for one thing: The pickups weren't installed correctly from the factory :L If you consider getting one, please view it in person.

And I play djent, the stock pickups arnt *that* bad, but, an upgrade would be very useful. Because of the incorrect mounted pickups, the local guitar tech said I would have to use rings to install a set of SD's I bought, so I returned the pickups. I hate rings on Ibanez's.
