Just interested if there are any genres you really hate on their own but like as a crossover genre? Either that or just some bands you like in genres you hate.

I personally don't like pop-punk and I'm not really a fan of metalcore either but for some reason I like crossover bands like A day to remember, Four Year Strong and Chunk no captain chunk.

OK your turn Pit.

Go.

Not into thrash but crossover is great. Not into much black metal but black noise/drone/doom/core/gaze/postavantjazzcoregaze is awesome. basically any black metal that's for people who don't like black metal.

Not fussed about hip-hop but stuff like Death Grips is godly.

You're such a negative Nancy darkcheef, are there any genres of music or indeed aspects of life you find positive?

I also don't like rap but I love Attila which is a rap-core band.

I don't like a lot of metal, but if it sounds a little more hardcore it's alright.
I don't really like dance-y electronic music, unless I'm like dancing or whatever. But just to listen to it? Not for me.
I don't really like classical, but I really don't know anything about it and it's kinda too big of a genre, so there's probably something in there I'd like, but I don't really have a desire to find it.
I don't like modern country, but like older sounding country.
I don't like songs from musicals, or anything too theatrical.
I don't like some classic rock, but I also like some.
I hate these radio songs that are like folk songs remixed into dance songs. Or maybe they're intentionally like that? I don't know, but it's pretty bad. Like "Hey Cotton Eye Joe, ya shoulda stayed in the 90s or whatever."

There's not a lot of genres I'll just outright dismiss and say there's nothing in there that I'd ever like. I like #solidtunes.

Is this what this thread was about?

Just because Muse are pretentious as f*ck, does not mean they are prog rock. There is nothing 'prog' about Muse.

Thank you thank you thank you

Muse are NOT in anyway progressive rock, they just use a hell of a lot of fx pedals and Matt Bellamy has a high pitched voice which sounds, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Prog Rock are bands like Camel, King Crimson, ELP, Caravan, Genesis, Yes and so on.

I personally don't enjoy most all of the music I hear. I'm not limiting myself to only classical and jazz fusion but it's all I enjoy. But I think btbam is ****ing amazing. If you dropped the vocals people would hate on them less. I could listen to the great misdirect one instrument at a time. I think it's amazing. But I can't stand most all other metal bands.

Honestly, I quit paying attention to genre classifications. I just know what music I like and what I don't.

See, I never would have considered Genesis and Yes to be progressive rock.

Yeah I guess it's just some of their teenage fanbase trying to validate their taste in music by giving them a label that sort of implies that their music is somewhat "intellectual". I don't think Muse have ever called themselves prog.

Fair enough Genesis got poppier after Peter Gabriel left but the core sound was still there. As for Yes I couldn't put them in any other genre.

They're not like Pink Floyd who are as much Stadium Rock as they are Prog
