Hey guys. So I overhauled my amp rig and bought myself a Peavey 6505 and an Orange PPC 4x12 cab, but I'm having issues getting it to sound how I want.

To say I'm extremely picky about my tone is a huge understatement. I played around with a TS9 for a while, but I just didn't really care for it, so I've been considering getting a Maxon OD808, or even a Bad Monkey.

I play a lot of Shinedown, Halestorm, Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, etc., so I'm going for more of an alternative metal/hard rock sound. Any suggestions would help me out
Guitars:
-Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Silverburst (Invader/'59)
-Fender Standard Telecaster HH Black (SH-5/'59)
-Fender Standard Stratocaster HH White (Nazgul/'59)
-Austin Guitars Les Paul Goldtop Copy (Distortion/'59)
-Ovation ApplauseAE44II Elite Black Acoustic

Amps/Cabs
-Peavey 6505+
-Peavey Stereo Chorus 2x12 Combo
-Behringer Ultracoustic ACX450 1x8 Acoustic Combo
-Marshall MX2x12 Cabinet

If you don't like the ts9 then don't get an od808 or bad monkey. they'll sound so similar it's pointless, you're just wasting money.

That's the first thing.

Just to check, are you using the TS as a boost i.e. drive at 0, level at 10, tone around 12- 2 o'clock? You probably are, and I apologise for insulting your intelligence, but it's worth checking just in case you aren't.

What don't you like about your tone so far? Is it too gainy, or too honky/middy?
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Go ahead and spend your money, I don't care. It won't make you sound better.

Well it's like when I would boost the mids, it was too muddy; and when I would boost the treble, it was too harsh. I guess I'm just having trouble finding the middle ground I suppose? I mean, I'm not trying to get the heaviest tone in the world, just heavy enough (Like I said, I play a lot of Shinedown and Halestorm)

yeah

i mean a 6505 has a ton of gain so that shouldn't be the problem. it's not impossible that you just don't like the tone of the thing, or maybe it's a bit too modern-sounding for the tones you're after. or maybe a bit more tweaking might help.
