I'll be heading to Hong Kong on vacation in July and if anyone has been there before, I need recommendations on stuff to eat, shop and see.

Thanks

Hong Kong is so goddamn awesome. Make sure you catch the light show at night at the Avenue of the Stars.

Go to Sea World or whatever it's called and ride the ski lift and you can see the entire island. It's amazing.

...modes and scales are still useless.

OMG!!! So much fun!

Here's where you should go:
1) The Peak: go around late afternoon so you can see the sunset. Don't forget to take the peak tram, it's so much fun!
2) Lantau Island Buddha
3) Tsim Sha Tsui / Causeway Bay: for shopping
4) Stanley Beach: For street fairs, and specialty stores
5) Ngo Ping 360: Try the crystal cart, the cable car is see-through. And the Ngo Ping village is really cool too if you like that ancient Chinese feel village experience
6) Lan Kwai Fong: Barhopping at night
7) Mong Kok: if you want to buy pirated DVDs and game consoles
8) Cheung Chau Island: Go check out the Cheung Po Tsai cave. Apparently an old pirate used to hide his treasures in the cave.

What to eat:
1) Ding tai fung: Eat all the dumplings, especially Shanghai soup dumplings and dandan noodles
2) SoHo: If you're craving European food
3) Hung Sing Seafood Restaurant (Harbor City in Tsim Sha Tsui): Best Hong Kong dim sum I have ever had
4) Mong Kok: If you go to this area, you can find snack food along the street. Try fish balls, shumai, and stinky tofu

I can seriously go on and on. But these are definitely top of my list.

Don't go to Tim Ho Wan. The one in Singapore has much better food and service and you don't need to queue for as long. Or I guess you can go if you want but just know that it's not the best it could be.

xcherrykatiex said everything else I was going to say though have fun! hk is awesome

Oh and whatever you do don't speak mandarin if you know/can pick up some Cantonese

Sweet. Thanks for the help! What's the best method of commuting? Would I be going around by train or taxi mostly. Need to figure out a budget.

^ I've just realised if you say Simple Plan's 2011 effort "Get Your Heart On!" really fast in a Southern American accent, it sounds gross. . .like sexual gross!

The MTR is really really good and pretty affordable. It should cover most places you want to get to. I think it's closed between midnight and 6am you might wanna check. It can get super crowded at certain times though

Hello, I am in your house right now. It is not too shabby.
There's nothing left here to be saved

and once you find that too tame & easy, fly down here for a bit

Go try the dim sum at serenade and the rose latte/desserts at Agnes b cafe if you haven't already!

And for breakfast go to 2a Hau Fook Street, Tsim Tsa Tsui! The liver porridge is really good
