Has anyone ever tried installing a pickguard on guitars that don't originally have one?

I have an ESP Viper-50 (yes, a cheap guitar) and I just thought it'd be cool to install a custom Viper pickguard onto it. I know I could save for a 256 or 1000 which has one, but I'm just wondering if anyone jas ever done this before.
yeah i made a custom guard out of circuit board for a flat top guitar that didn't have one.
it was pretty easy I just drilled the holes in the appropriate place. One thing you need to consider is that you're increasing the width of the guitar's body slightly so you need to check if there's sufficient height on the pot posts.
