So Pit, I have a wide variety of music tastes, from prog to jazz fusion to electro house and lots in between but I've recently been having a look at trap music and it's a peculiar one.

It is quite repetitive but I understand that's one of the genre's main aspects, also it's different to a lot electronic music in that the drops are not bass heavy and generally change key completely, naturally I think some songs are good and some are terrible.

So Pit, what are your thoughts on Trap?

Here are some trap songs which I think are quite good

And one I found that I thought was pretty terrible, the vocals are fine, the drop is just awful.

It's alright if I'm in a club or at a party. I wouldn't sit and listen to it on my own though.

That's just shitty electronic trap, not actual trap music

I prefer the keys n krates stuff because it's more trance/electro house based rather than trap itself, what is actual trap? Give me some examples please?

Trap has drops that aren't bass heavy? The fuck are you listening to it on? Laptop speakers?

But trap's ok. I like it when I'm at a club and completely shit faced. Real progressive house (not that big room SHM, Avicii, Martin Garrix, etc. shit) is where the best music's at though.

I meant that the drops in most electronic songs, particularly electro house and (meh) dubstep are very bass orientated whereas from the trap stuff I've heard, there is underlying bass but the rhythmic parts are made up of high pitched electronic parts which are not bass heavy.

And big room is just awful 99% of the time, I do listen to quite a lot of edm but just not trap, I'm still trying to get into it but it seems that there's electronic trap which is more similar to electro house and "proper" trap which seems very rap based having just had a youtube browse at your suggestions.

Oh, I get what you mean. Yeah trap lacks mid-bass for the most part and is really 808/subbass oriented. And as far as origins Trap just happens to be the name of southern rap and the edm genre you posted. They're two separate genres with the same name. Kinda like how Hardcore refers to hardcore punk and hardstyle/hard dance in edm.

But if I may suggest some edm to check out, it would def. be progressive house. It's the music of the gods (you just gotta be careful because a lot of people call bigroom house progressive, when it isn't)

I actually really like it. Good stuff, OP. This kinda stuff is great for jogging, dance, club, party. The vocal annoy me though. Sounds like alvin and the chipmunks. But it's pretty decent overall.

In terms of electronic music in general, Synthpop/Shoegaze/Synthwave will always be better than any kind of dubstep-like/club styled beats imo.

all of this happy club music sounds the same to me. i mean i know it isn't the same, but nothing inspires me to determine how it is different.
