I'm wondering if you guys have any advice for nailing phrases like the one below. I've been taking it slowly, trying to get it up to speed. My question is, how exactly do the notes marked as triplets affect what I'm playing?

In other words, is there a technique I'm missing? I'm simply picking out each note (no hammer-ons/pull offs) and using my index, second and ring fingers to fret each note at a time (using alternating picking).

It affects counting and accenting while picking, nothing more.
