Is it
Puberty?
Growing up?
The real world?
Immigrants stealing our jobs?
???

What happens in the time between being a happy energetic kid to being a mopy, lazy, pessimistic adult?

I stumbled across my old bebo account and I seemed to be happy and excitable 100% of the time. It seems like the older I get the unhappier I become Is this just me?

The internet.

The internet brought me porn, limewire and msn messenger as a kid; probably the three best discoveries a kid can make.

And it's all downhill from there.

Internet's fault.

This one time when I was like 13 I was downloading what I thought was an episode of American Dad from limewire and it ended up being porn and they had a guy with an insanely huge, just about 3 foot long penis and he put it up her butt and it scarred me for life.

But other than that, I'm not very cynical.

Understanding more of the real world, realizing how little of a difference one person makes in said real world unless others say so, struggling to cope with being lied to by your parents in this regard, etc.

But life isn't all bad. You can go to a park and dick around on your smartphone, check out the ladies, or otherwise enjoy the occasion. Drive around in places nobody lives, fetch a cheap drink at the supermarket, take in the sun, or stay in your local area while the rest of the city/village is off to the beachfront.

Not sure what makes people cynical, but if you find out let me know because I'm an incredibly cynical bastard.

But see I don't agree with any of that. It's easy to say it is because of factor a or b, but I think it is more to do with cognitive development. Something to do with our capacity of happiness decreasing as we get older. Everybody looks back at their childhood with nostalgia compared to their current life.

And I don't agree with that. I'm happier now than I was when I was younger with far fewer requirements to stay happy.

There was once upon a time when people wore straw fedora hats at festivals because they were indie and edgy.

Now you get called a straw hat wearing wanker

Speaking of Bebo I just read this:
Bebo was founded in 2005 by husband and wife - Michael & Xochi Birch. It grew into the 3rd largest social network in the world and indeed - fun times were had. They sold the company in 2008 to AOL for $850M and celebrated with a victory pint.

Over the years, the website faded away, until last year the original founders decided to buy Bebo back for $1 million, and began brainstorming ways to re-invent it into something fresh.

hahaha AOL got completely done over

The constant, endless onslaught of arguments and "debates" that actually help no one, coupled with the en masse refusal of happiness in and of itself...

Cynicism, like misery, loves company.

Also, that George Carlin quote is pretty good, props to you.

I was going to say "life" but was beaten to it. So I started thinking more.

I think as you get older, you gain more responsibility and have more exposure to a world that consistently disappoints in regards to fairness. Once you add your own money into the equation it just all goes down hill
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable
