all the tubes are new and it sounds great, all 12ax7's, i didn't have any 12at7's in my stock at the time.

would it be worth throwing an 12at7 anywhere? i was thinking PI possible. would that be a good thing?

Not to derail your thread or anything but, what 12ax7s are you currently running in your rec? I am in the process of retubing my single and was looking for recommendations. Right now I just have the stock Mesa tubes, but was thinking of switching to all JJs. I think I am looking at doing something similar to you to gather more flavor from the amp.

i am not really sure thats why i am asking. plus i have more 12at7's than 12ax7's lying around and wasn't sure where they could benefit.

Start testing! What may sound good to one may sound like ass to you, yea?

I had my first bad JJ tube this week. A recently purchased 12AX7 (ECC83). An easy fix that didn't cause damage but I didn't expect it.

The PI would be the only place I'd stick a 12AT7 unless I was trying to change the gain structure. I can't speak for the Recto specifically but a lot of people swear by the 12AT7 in the PI spot. It's certainly worth a try.
