Hi guys,

I'm interested in building my own stompbox (this video goes through 3 different models of what I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKEbkbu6P-I) similar to the one John Butler uses in his song Ocean (here's one version if you want to hear it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln_aerlFGhA). I'd like to be able to plug it into an amp and play it on top of solo acoustic guitar stuff. I'm finding some models online that I can simply purchase for $100+ but I think that it would be fun to make my own by recycling materials and could be cheaper. Does anyone have experience making these? Any suggestions for what/how I could do this?

you could make a very cheap one with a plank of wood and a some sort of peizo pick up

i found an easy and cheap one made out of an peice of wood and a speaker but i cant comment on the quality of it because i made a peizo one

Not to derail the thread...
Screw the peizo pikup
For REAL DIY, get an old smoke detector and rip the buzzer out of it.
As an alternative, you can get even get them from Radioshack for $2 - $5.
I mounted one in a POS nylon string guitar and sounds amazingly good.
There was a thread here several years ago about doing it.
