My Peavey KB4 died a few months back. refused to switch on. Amp tech replaced the voltage regulator IC with a locally made part, now it works fine at low volume, but crackles/clips at high. He said he asked the distributor for the area to check if he had any spares.

Any of you guys have any ideas? Would a mismatched voltage regulator cause such issues? Would it be possible to fix it with an adjustable one?

The amp is solid state, 75W. Beyond that, I do not know any technical details.

Any help would be appreciated, really being driven up the wall trying to get this fixed.

Yeah, possibly, if the output was too high. Without a schematic and/or a part number it's hard to say.

I'll try to get one or the other and post here. Will call up the tech in the morning and ask.
