EMG 81-85 or Seymour Duncan Blackouts? I hear they are similar

They're similar.

If we could tell you which ones to get without any input from you there wouldn't be much point to a discussion forum. Give us some more information with your questions and you'll get more effective answers.

Oh I guess just regular emgs and the blackouts you get in a charvel desolation ds1 if that's good enough.

what are you putting them in? what are you trying to play? maybe some model tones you are trying to get close to?

i haven't played the blackouts much, just on something at GC.

i haven't gone back and fourth with them. but i would wager if you heard an open chord of both, followed by a high gain amp and whatsoever, then you played metal of some subgenre that you could probably tell they are different, but i don't think you could say which were EMG____ or Blackouts everytime. listen to them.

but i have limited experience with blackouts, and only ONE of 22 guitars i own has active pickups.
