Hello,
just a quick question: is it possible to install passive pickups in a LTD with EMG loaded pickups? I heard that the actives are less noisy and therefore they are not grounded. Passives on the other side need a proper grounding and therefore it would be a problem. Do I have to bring my guitar to a guitar tech to do it or can I do it myself? Thanks

You can indeed do everything by yourself, but there are practical downsides to the thing.

1. yeah you have to ground the guitar, it will take half an hour to a hour and a half
2. pots for active p/ups will have a huuuuuuuge effect on a passive p/up
3. most importantly, the passive one's output will be a lot lower

If you're alright with that just ground your guitar, there are lotsa tutorials on how to do that all over the internet, and google works.
Then install the passive pickup and you're good to go.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

You will need to know how to unsolder, solder, and of course have a soldering iron. The grounding is not difficult, but will require some extra wire. Like spambot said, you may need to replace the pots. Usually 500K for humbuckers and 250K for single coils.

But 500k and 250k ohm pots will have little to no effect on active pickups.

The p/up will likely go from mute to almost full volume in less than a pinch of a turn.
I'd use two separate volume controls and two tone controls if possible.

I have never seen nor heard of passive p/ups sold together with pots.
The guys who put pots in p/ups packages are only EMG afaIk.

Put Blackouts in my Loomis. The kit came with pots I haven't used.
