So, I have noticed my amp (5150 iii) has been giving a really "gated" sound, as if a noise gate had been turned on all the way. Because of the this, notes die off quickly, or high notes are flat and barely any noise at all; Lead work barely shows at all, really have to "dig" into my guitar to get any notes out. Any thoughts on what it might be?

I think it's my pre-amp for that channel going out, or does this sound more like a tube problem? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a guitar issue to me. Try it into another amp.

Well, I guess it could be a tube. Buy a single 12AX7 and try it in every position and see what happens. Cheap and easy. If that doesn't fix it, buy a set of power tubes and try those, you should have spares anyway.
