I just got a used 5150 and a cab for $500, and I'm pretty blown away, it sounds great. I play metalcore but I'm interested in playing clean stuff now and then. However, when i go to switch the channels on the head from clean back to dirty, there is a long delay (15-20 seconds), and then the amp somehow switches back and forth between clean and dirty randomly for about 3-5 seconds before landing back on the dirty channel. If I get a footswitch, could it bypass whatever kind of wackyness thats going on or should i just forget about it?

Are you switching it using the push-buttons on the front of the amp?

This isn't an uncommon problem.

Get some contact cleaner (Deoxit or similar) and spray it in the footswitch jack, or on a cable and work it in and out of the footswitch jack.
Spin 'round carousel when your horse isn't screwed in.

Yeah that's what I've been doing.
