Hey guys - I'm having trouble deciding between the peavey Classic 50 212 and the Hughes & Ketner 20th anniversary 20watt amps. Both are valve and I'm buying them second-hand/used.

I'm in a funk rock band and I love my blues licks, so I want something warm and that will take well to a fuzz pedal as well. I currently have a Ernie Ball Musicman JP7, but I'm looking at getting a Fender deluxe soon.

Any advice in choosing between the two will be appreciated!

The Hughes & Kettner is a valve amp? Are you sure? They indulge in a lot of SS shenanigans in the signal path on many, if not all, of their amps. The presence of tubes doesn't stop them being hybrids, rather, it's a prerequisite.
That aside, I haven't been impressed by any H&K amps and I've heard a lot of them. The Classic 50 on the other hand, is a great amp.

my classic 50 loves fuzz pedals. here's a tip - plug into the bright input, and stick a dummy plug into the normal input. you'll get a low-end boost. man, my classic 50 and a good muff are insanely cool.

It will serve you well. If you are playing funk you may want to try a 12AT7 in V1. It will drop the gain a tad.

I dunno about the 20th anniversary, but the edition tube (its immediate predecessor, far as i'm aware) had some ss shenanigans going on in it.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
