I do, but I've always imagined my seventies to be my last ten years. Exactly what I do depends on how the next couple of decades turn out. I only want to go into a 'semi-retired' state (in other words, still an active member of society and not a total recluse ) and use those years to finalise whatever legacy I will (hopefully) leave behind. I know I'm going to be wise and chill and nice&cool at that age.

I'm of the opinion that it isn't safe or smart to assume that you'll ever be wise.

Wise people don't fantasize childishly like that. Wise people admit to their own ignorance.

I'd rather be happy than wise anyway.

i'm of the opinion that most people lie about how wise or intelligent they think they are just because of the uprising trend of 'if i tell people i'm stupid, they'll think i'm smart'. what somebody claims about their wisdom or intelligence has nothing to do with how wise or intelligent they are.

the 'all i know is i know nothing' stance or the dunning-kruger effect is convenient because its popularity gives people an easy gate into smartland and stupidland. want to be stupid? say you're smart! want to be smart? claim you're stupid!

i don't think for sure i'm wise or intelligent. i'm constantly conflicted in my head between whether i'm stupid or smart. but i think i will eventually have advise to offer to younger people because of my experience. that is what i mean by 'wise'.

maybe. but that is where i take joy in life. what does it make you? someone who doesn't offer anything and just judges from afar to seem better than me?

I did offer something. I'm going to pretend I'm deaf to annoy people; because I suspect that if I do live that long, I'll be a bitter old **** who can't afford hobbies past picking my nose and annoying other people.

It's called realism.

My only point was that there is no reason to speculate how "wise" you'll be like 60 years from now. It's impossible to tell lol.

I'm sure you will naturally have advice for young people, though.

i have to admit, i didn't realise you posted earlier, i read it but thought it was someone else. my mistake.

i like to be optimistic because the present sucks and the past sucked. i hope my life will get better and it has done for the past year.

my mistake, i meant to quote T00DEEPBLUE, not just you. i can't be the only one that's currently bored. i'm not trying to predict what i'll be like at 80 years, that'll sadden me, i just want to ask what you would like to be like at 80 years.

I hope mine will too, but (my)experience tells me different. The future seems more likely to suck differently.

Well, your future is based off of what you do now. So stop thinking about the future and think about what you need to do currently.

The future is gonna happen one way or another, and once it does it's too late. So make an impact now while you can.

I didn't say to claim stupidity. I said to admit ignorance. Stupidity and ignorance do not necessarily come hand-in-hand. But regardless, the 'all I know is I know nothing' stance is most likely the case when trying to predict your own 'wisdom' in the future. Life is too unpredictable to know what you'll learn or not learn when you're in your 80's.

you're taking this thread way too seriously in the sense that i'm not trying to predict the future here. i'm no more ignorant than you. i feel like you're changing what i'm saying so it suits your need to make a fool out of me. i don't know why you're talking about ignorance.

i never said i wanted to predict what i will be in my 80s. i'm simply saying what sounds appealing to you. what do you want to do with your time when you're 80+? what sounds like the ultimate dream at that age? i imagine myself not in this country, maybe in new zealand or switzerland or sweden, with a cosy home in a nice neighborhood, with an observatory i built with a telescope in my back garden. i'll have a room dedicated to my guitars. i'll have a studying room. i'll smoke weed cos i enjoy it. etc etc etc.

Some of us older guys with medical conditions don't have the luxury of even dreaming about being in our 80's. However, I still feel very lucky to be able to play the guitar even in a limited capacity as I am now at 56. I went to an orthopedic surgeon last week and he even told me, "You are a young man in a very old body"....unfortunately he was correct.

I sometimes fantasies about droping everything I have at my 40's, selling all my stuff and have enough money to move to latin america or somewhere like New Zealand. Smoke weed, drink wine and just relax at a beachside cabin. Travel with a old car, maybe make music at local pub, make friends, move to another city... carry on.
