Hi guys, I was wondering if you had any advice on how to tune your strings up to higher notes without breaking them. I'm trying to learn a song right now that requires me to tune my d up to an e, but I've broken two d strings now and I'm getting frustrated. Any help would be great!

try tuning a full step lower and then using a capo on the second fret. I do that for songs in open E tuning( the black crowe's "she talks to angels" is one). that takes all of the extra stress off of the neck and it's less likely that the strings will break.
need more gear and a lot more talent(courtesytuxs)

Tuning from D to E really isn't that hard. What gauge strings and what quality are they? I use 12's and going up to E is usually quite easy. Tune up slowly, perhaps go up to Eb, then wait a bit, then go up to E. Are you stringing properly? Cause that's a big factor too. Try to do it with newer strings, old ones can go brittle. If you're doing it cautiously it should be fine, I've tuned my A up to C without trouble.
