Buddy and I will be gigging playing acoustic covers. I play in open tunings a lot but also play standard for most of the things we will be covering. I like clean big bold heavy tones, especially from my EJ200 in open C.

I have only ever owned a shitty spider III by L6.

Any recommendations would be awesome.

I thought it was better to run through the amp so that the vocals stay clear...I have 2 800watt speakers with the MG166cx soundboard...should I just do that?

Im new to the PA and soundboard...I just went and dropped 1300 on everything cus I needed to start practicing for live gigs...lol

Use this into your sound system and you are golden. No other amp needed.

Yep, if you have a PA, you're set as far as amplifying an acoustic goes. You don't want a traditional electric guitar amp because those are made to roll off high end & often provide distortion, things most people don't want on an acoustic guitar. A preamp would be useful though.

Depending on the preference you may not even wanna use an external pre - just from the guitar to the PA.

What you don't want to on the other hand definitely is to use an acoustic guitar amp.
They don't do anything a PA does, they're heavy, they don't provide the same volume nor the same dispersion, and most of them sound worse than an average PA system.
All of them sound worse than a good PA system.

You may want to use an electric guitar amp though depending on the sound you wanna obtain.
For reference see any Damien Rice live show.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.
