How can I get a rosewood fret board off of a maple neck without damage?
Plenty of heat in the form of steam and slow, patient work with razor blades and paint scrapers. I once read a long and detailed how-to on it, but unfortunately don't have the link anymore.
That basically. It does take a while (half an hour ish) to get any kind of result. Vinegar can also be used by injecting it into the seam, the acid in it helps dissolve most wood glues, though it's not normally necessary.
Thanks. I have a broken ESP neck that was given to me. I want to make some picks out of the rosewood and maple.
heat and steam as said, use a iron (your wife or mum will be able to tell you what one is and how to work it ) on the steam setting. Lay a tea towel on top and steam through that. The couple I have done have actually come off really easily and quickly
The steam isn't necessary, but the heat is. Move the iron up and down the fretboard, hitting a different spot for 10 minutes at a time to soften the glue.
Success. It is done
