Hey, I know there's a lot of posts and threads about this topic but many of them seem to be confusing and others argue with each other about it too.

Say I had an Amp Head that is a 120 Watt and has an Impedance of 08/04/16, does this mean the Head can work with Cabs that have either 08/04 or 16 Ohms Impedance?

I'm looking at getting a 4x12 and the impedance is 16 ohms. Can the head and Cab work together? Sorry if I'm wording this a little complicated.
Cheers

The impedance is fine, set the amp to 16 ohms and plug in to the 16 ohm input on the cab. I'm assuming that it's mono.

However, you need to consider wattage. The cab must be rated at 120W or more, I would suggest in most cases that you'd want at least a 150W cab, and perhaps 200 if you're playing metal. Depends on whether you want speaker breakup.

Thanks for the Reply Roc, the cab Im looking at is 240 watt max. The amp head mentioned is one for metal too. I'm assuming that means its all good to go?

This is a solid state head isn't it? That's just a label, not a switch for the impedance, isn't it?
Just checking here. Assuming that it is:
If it's 120W that will be into 4 ohm. Into a 16 ohm cab it will be closer to 30W. It'll still be mighty loud - but if you rewire the cab to 4 ohm, you'll get your full 120W.
A 4x12 at 16 ohm, pretty much has to be four 16 ohm speakers wired in series/parallel. If you rewire them all in parallel, it will become 4 ohm.

If the speakers are 4 ohm all in series, I'll need a valium to recover from the shock. Even still, it's easily fixable.

Yeah sorry, just to clarify it is a tube head, 120 Watts with impedence switches of 04/08/16.
The cab is a line6 spider Valve 412vs, 240W (max), stereo: 8 ohms, mono: 4 bzw. 16 ohms.

I'm pretty sure it would work but just wanted to check

just do what roc said. set the amp to 16 ohms and run the cab at 16 ohms.
