I plugged it and it popped twice and is now dead silent. My guitar and cable work with my solid state amp, so it isn't them. The amp I have is a DSL40C. All the tubes are lit up in the back. The standby is disengaged, the tubes are warm, and the volume and gain are at noon.

Did I just get a bad one, or am I doing something dumb?

Make sure you don't have the effects loop switch engaged on the back (unless you have stuff plugged in) of course. Make sure you guitar lead is plugged in both to amp and your axe (all the way in) and lastly make sure your guitar volume is rolled up all the way.

Aside from that if you are sure you off standby and the volumes/gains are all turned up past 1-3 range so that you are sure there should be volume and you get nothing then there may be a problem with the amp.

Make sure all the tubes are fully inserted into their sockets. If one is loose, there is a slight possibility it coult have caused a fuse to fail. The fuses should be the glass tube type, so you should be able to check them
My Gear:- A guitar, a guitar lead, a guitar amplifier. Or sometimes just an acoustic guitar!

Checked all those :/ and also put every knob up past 3. No matter what switches I flick, it's always silent.

I will check the tubes now.

I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

First thing I'd try after checking fuses and cables would be to pull out all the tubes and plug them back in. If that fails, send the ****er back.

^ yeah sometimes tubes can be dislodged in transit.
