This is the first track I've released off my new EP
I did everything: guitars, drum programming, bass, vocals, and mixing.
Recorded in my bedroom

Gonna be completely honest with you here, because well that's what i do.

I loved the beat. It's really kinda laid back hip hop, so when the vocals came in it really jarred me. They don't fit together. It sounds like too many different genres being mashed together and can't figure out what it wants to be. I can't say i dig the vocals, but everything else is good--i would LOVE to see what a good rapper could do with that beat. It's got a real east-coast, NYC kind of almost Nas vibe. Like i said, i really, really dig the beat. Not digging the vocals so much.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure I get what you mean about it being too many genres to understand though. This type of stuff isn't really new, Beck was making hip-hop influenced stuff like this back in the early 90s and many other people have done it too (King Krule, Sublime etc).
I just don't understand why you think it "can't figure out what it wants to be" - I think the reason you think that is actually because you can't figure out what it is.
Nevertheless, thanks for the constructive feedback, I've reviewed your track

I was thinking that at around 1:05 -1:10 or somewhere in there that it was going to explode into power chords or something....which would have been cool, but then it just went into another verse etc

The ending with the different overdubbed guitars playing together was cool and actually sounded pretty Hendrixy

My main criticism would be that the song doesnt really "build" or go anywhere. Its sort of monotonous with that same vibe all the way thru...no surprises or ear candy changes etc

Like I said earlier, a nice power chord type chorus, maybe with doubled or harmony vocals would improve it IMO

cheers, JP

Thanks for your feedback

You're right, after listening to it with that in mind I can hear how it could have built up into something a bit louder/more aggressive. That being said though, this song came together really quickly and I wasn't really going for a dramatic type of thing.

Thanks for the comments on the solo, the comparison is great to hear.

The other songs on the EP I'm going to release in a few days have alot more variation so I'll be interested in hearing critique from people like yourself on those tracks.
Thanks for checking it out.

Nice beat! And the guitar is very nice too! But l don't like the voice, especially with that kind of guitar/beat. I'd try something completely different. Like stated before, a good rapper could make this very very good.

Thanks for your comment I've done tracks with rappers before, but I've ended up not liking the end result and regretting collaborating. I'm very possessive/controlling when it comes to my music so for this song (despite it being a good hip-hop beat) I decided to put my own vocals over it. I will probably collaborate with rappers again though.

Left feedback on your song too.
