Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth in Bethlehem around 2014 years ago give or take 4 years. The word Christmas comes from Christ's Mass or the celebration of his birth by the church. Although he was most likely not born on Dec 25 this day was chosen as it coincided with several pagan festivals at that time. By changing the meaning of the festival to a religious significance it helped spread the word of the church without interfering with existing celebrations. It merely changed the direction or meaning of the celebration.
