I've been playing guitar for a few years and I want to buy my first tube amp. I was thinking about spending $500 aprox. on a head + cabinet or maybe a combo. I thought about the Bugera V55HD and a 1x12 Buguera cabinet, but I'd love to hear more suggestions about the subject. I own an Ibanez RG350EX and I play mostly hard rock, thrash and heavy stuff.

You don't want a V55 for heavy stuff in my opinion. If cleans aren't important to you, a 6505+ combo would be good choice. Jet City is highly recommended on UG for high gain stuff and they have a few 20 and 50 watters, head or combo.

At $500, I'd almost certainly suggest getting a combo over a head+cab. A decent cab is usually gonna cost you at least $200. Leaving you only $300 for the head. It seems like heads and combos of similar quality run at about the same price.

+1. good cabs start at $400-$500 alone in the states (used from cL). 2x12"s and 4x12" priced aren't totally differernt. for example a typical mesa cab $500, orange maybe a little bit higher, 1960a marshall cabs $350-$400+ (not MG cabs)

get a peavey xxx or jsx combo. they are versatile and are a good value for the dollar.

The JCA5212 isn't the high gain one, it's the Lucky 13 one.

Otherwise what they said. ^

Vyper Tube 120 would be worth a gander at too.

Thanks man! I was thinking about a JCA too, but what I don't really like is the fact that it either has only one channel, or another pedal only accessible channel, but I'll look forward into these!

Listen to cath though, that particular model isn't what you want.
