I am desperate for one of these guitars but have learned that Fender discontinued this model a while back, despite shops on the internet stating they have it in stock, I've learnt they don't. So I guess that means I literally have no chance of getting this dream guitar unless it's second hand?

That was my number one option, the guitar I had my heart set on but learning this I looked for the Jaguar HH Special Edition and it was the same story.

Is there any other realistic alternatives? One employee of a company I looked at suggested the Jim Root jazzmaster but that is a ugly ugly guitar. The only other guitar I've found that's similar and I like is the Fender Japan JG66 in B&W but as I'm from the UK I'll forget that one.

This thread is a bit of a lost cause but just wondering.

What's wrong with second hand? If your heart was so set on it, be patient and hold out for the perfect one!
Unless you're buying it on eBay, you should be able to play it before you buy it.

You're right, it's just I'd like it for as long as possible so being the only owner is the ideal scenario but if the only option is 2nd hand I'll settle for that easily.

Well it looks like some can still be found out there:

One is blemished, but both seem to be new. Can't speak to the shipping costs, though.

You might also check out Vintage & Modern's selection of Reverends.

The Fender Blacktop is 24" scale, and the closest to that size, scale and body style would be a Warhawk or Bayonet, both 24.75" scale set-necks. In the 25.5" scale bolt-ons of similar body style are the Jetstream, Kingbolt, Double Agent, and Six Gun. Of all those, I'd say the Bayonet, Jetstream, and Kingbolt are closest overall to the Blacktop.

Appreciate that effort. Having looked at some of the other guitars makes me realize it's either going to be one or the other from the two I like if anything.

I definitely cannot order from the site where the guitar is blemished but I'm going to have to check up on the other one, problem is that they say the same thing in the UK but then don't actually have it in stock, I'll see whether that's the same in the US. Thanks

If you don't mind shipping from Germany to the UK then Musikhaus Korn has the silver version in stock (I've used them before they're pretty reliable):
http://www.musikhaus-korn.de/de/Fender-Blacktop-Jaguar-HH-RW-Silver.html?pid=2&gclid=CIrd6tPGgMACFUTLtAodUSsAeA

So do Just Music (equally reliable): http://www.justmusic.de/de-de/gitarren-baesse/e-gitarren/weitere-bauformen/154189/jaguar-blacktop-hh.html?gclid=COeMqsXIgMACFamWtAodYgEA4w

Musik Sadner http://www.musik-sandner.de/cmd_item_group_2_subgroup_11_usubgroup_37_item_31876.html and J&M Musikland http://www.musikland-online.de/Fender_Blacktop_Jaguar_HH_RW_SV.html?gclid=CPzc4fPIgMACFY_ItAodhmQA0w seem to have both the black and silver versions but it isn't totally clear if both are in stock and ready to ship. I haven't personally used either but email them maybe and ask. Don't worry most German companies will be happy to reply in English if you keep the grammar uncomplicated! Good luck!

Btw I have the sunburst P90 version and absolutely love it!

Guitars aren't cars

being the first or second or 400th owner has no bearing on how long it'll last. If you take care of it it will be around long after you're buried underground. Tbh i have no idea why anybody would buy a guitar brand new.

I'm not sure what "as long as possible" means to you, but I've had a 1939 Epiphone Emperor for several decades, and it's probably good for 2039 at least, if it keeps going as is. I couldn't have been the original owner (wasn't born), and the owner (s?) before me didn't do a great job (binding was coming free, finish was in bad shape), but I had it put back like new and the french polish finish on it is going strong long after I had it done.

The guitar will keep going long after you're gone if you take care of it.

Don't you wish you were the first ever person to bang your girlfriend?

Nice guitars don't drop in value that much and if you want a rare one like the OP then it's better to get there first. And then there's custom made ones.

Nah. What matters is if you're the one she remembers.

I have nothing against 2nd hand guitars, it's just nice to be the only owner.

Thanks again, the UK stores definitely don't have it, tried everywhere saying they have it in stock only to be met with 'we don't have it, it's been discontinued' etc. Unfortunately I don't like the silver version either, it's a real pain in the ass that fender don't do a simplistic black jaguar, kind of like the olympic white jag but I'm a huge fan of these black ones, basically the nicest looking guitars I've seen and I need one.

Thanks to you too but unfortunately again the silver thing, really not big on that colour. I will look further at those sites you suggested might have black.

Thanking you all for help, shame I'm picky

Here's a black one:

https://reverb.com/item/200750-fender-blacktop-jaguar-hh-black-gloss-unplayed#description-tab

Their bidding policy is the lowest 48 in the USA*. Still, if you're serious, they're worth contacting.

Or you might see if you can work a deal with an American UGer to bid on & ship it to you.

* FWIW, there's also a bunch of clack ones on eBay that are likewise limited to the lower 48.
