I have a Samson R10S jack dynamic mic that I have plugged into the computer and am recording the music using audacity. For one or two seconds I get the whole sound of the guitar but after that, the mic only picks up the strumming noise and none of the actual sound of the chords. Any help?

Clips would help.

Also how are you connecting the mic to the computer?

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

Its a jack into a microphone input.

I would also check your recording device properties. Right-click your sound icon in the system tray, click recording devices, select microphone input, properties, and just look it over and make sure nothing stupid is on like noise cancellation, automatic volume levelling, etc. But definitely get an interface if you want to seriously record acoustic guitar, or any audio.
