Been running through all of France's best export, no not women.

No not cheese,

no, not baguettes.

But black metal. Yes. Bon oui monsieur.

Shout out praises (louanges) to the most vicious and prettiest (vicieux et plus jolie) scene on the face of the Earth (terre).

Everybody's favourite black metal band from France!

Why do you all hate Deathspell Omega? Well, let's be more accurate, early Deathspell Omega. Not Fas/Si Monvmentvm and the weirdly orthodox black metal days, but early stuff when they were riffing and blasting and being generally French.

Good man! Of course oui (!!!) do. Favourite works by them?

I'm not qualified to have a favourite; the only album of theirs that I have is "La sanie des siècles - panégyrique de la dégénérescence"

L'Ordure a l'etat Pur is my favorite Peste Noire album.

I need to listen to more Vlad Tepes, everyone I know that mentions them calls them a joke band, which confuzzles me.

You could (and should!) fix that. La Sanie is only the beginning of how utterly rabid Famine can sound.

Interesting, how come? What about this album made you celebrate it over their other works?

I do have to admit, the intro to:

Creates a tense atmosphere.

The LLN are considered more joke than not these days. With exorbitant prices of first editions and generally weirdness of the parties involved.

But it's a honest scene, dedicated to their sound for the most part. Vicious, truly and dearly. I don't know if you've ever bothered with Vlad Tepes, but March to the Black Holocaust is definitely worth your time.

god I fucking love Neige's vocals though for real

One of the many members of the French scene that make it worthwhile in my eyes. His vocals on Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera were what got me into him, notably Le Revenant and Aux Confins des Tenebrss, and it was then I decided that Neige is one of the best black metal vocalists in existence. I find his talents are not necessarily wasted on Alcest, but not to their fullest potential.

Mortifera's other material isn't all that bad either but truth be told I haven't listened to much of it.

Listening to Folkfuck Folie because of this thread, probably my favorite Peste Noire album. One of the most french sounding french metal bands in the world I swear to god.

Anyway, yeah Neige is brilliant, and though I like a couple Alcest tracks, I've grown apart from my previous love of the band. Especially with the recent releases that I have been anything but a fan of. I really dig Mortifera but I wish they held my attention a bit more.

Blus Aut Nord, not so much a fan of. I like Pensees Nocturnes' Grotesque though. The build-up odd circus like tension before the music begins is swell.

I found this on my laptop last night, and it's been a long time since I saw anyone mention this band. It's a shame they haven't released anything else.

I haven't seen anyone mention this band in awhile either.

Actually, the intro J'avais Reve' Du Nord is what really gets me. That entire piece and the ending track are what makes me put it above the rest of their work. I admit, however, that it's not as strong as an album as some of their other, but I find myself playing those tracks more than anything else by the band.

Of course...you also have a track like this on La Sanie~

I have yet to. I meant to check their work out after going through Mutiilation's discography the other day, but never got around to it. I'll give that'n a go.

La Rumeur Des Chaines were really big when their demo first came out and then they just vanished. I really liked their music back then and I still have the demo on my computer. One of my favourite releases I think. A lot of hype surrounding them though.

Mutiilation get a lot of attention for Vampires of Black Imperial Blood, but I'm too much of a fanboy for Sorrow Galaxies to say Vampires etc is better. But whatever floats your boat. I recommend everything Peste Noire have done since I enjoy it all.

I've found French Death metal to be of higher quality than the black metal outputs.

Enjoy the Violence in particular.

Also in before Deady convinces ISIL and Hamas to suicide bomb this thread.

And a final note - I like French women more than French music.

French death metal:

Gojira
Yrrkoon
Scarve
Benighted

Your allegiance to one band makes you look inconsiderate of my feelings. I don't want you to like Scarve.

^I do love me some Massacra. Enjoy the Violence and Final Holocaust are some of my favorite DM releases ever.

You guys should also be mindful that Supuration are from France.

And French women are from France as well

I was a bit unfair with the french death metal scene, even though I would never agree it's better than the black metal scene, there are still a few bands who did some pretty cool things:

I rescinded what I wrote, kind of. I did what you could never do.

Which is admit that French women are a common stereotype of beauty, but ultimately they're hairy and smell like cheese.

As far as BM & DM goes, I don't think I've heard a French band I disliked. I liked some more than others, but yeah.

I wasn't too keen on the Moevot song you posted, but that Belenos song was fvcking awesome. I'll definitely look into their debut.

Never heard of Artefact, I take it Ruins is the album I should enter into them with? I listened to the Failure track and I think the production quality on the Ruins' album track made it substantially better. What are your thoughts on Ruins, Hayden?

Well I prefer Failure since it's a bit different to typical Melodic Black Metal (more Death + Keyboards). That said, Ruins is one of my favourite Melodic Black Metal albums. It's not necessarily the most unique in terms of aesthetics but the music itself is absolutely first class. You can't go wrong with Ruins at all. The two before Ruins although not bad (still pretty good) are definitely a little more primitive. They were still working out the "kinks" so to speak.

@severed-metal: If you enjoy the older stuff from Artefact (first album in particular) I recommend Darkenhold. Darkenhold is composed of the majority of Artefact and is in a similar style but with significantly less keyboards. Darkenhold isn't as good as Artefact though (IMO). However, they have a new album coming out soon so they may prove me wrong.
