We're almost in 2015. What do you think of this decade so far? What defines it and what will people remember it by, up until now?

Seems to me that the Western World is in the toilet, inequality is growing but at least everyone is nicely involved in social media /s.

If we look at the naughties, the decade was defined by 9/11, the Great Recession (oh, it's still here?), iPods and Facebook, half of which only came about in the latter half of the decade.

So, what do you think?

I know, I know, Kanye West is the voice of this generation, but let's not make it all about him.

Gangnam style was 2 years ago. Harlem shake was almost 2 years ago. Twerking is even older.

All I know is that everyone seems to just be watching series all time. Other people's lives can be more interesting and especially fictional ones, and series are a convenient way to fill up all of our free time, but sometimes it seems a bit vapid and empty. You don't need to be doing constructive stuff all day for your life to have worth, but whenever I hear about someone binging through three seasons in a week it just seems to me like that person called in sick for his or her own life for those hours. It's easy consumption, like eating instant noodles; you do it, get hungry an hour or two later and forget you even had them. Go talk to someone, learn about or to do something or else just watch only one episode and go to sleep already.

How were the nineties defined by something that happened in 2001.

I mean, sure - the Western world may be in the toilet, but we're taking awesome selfies as we're flushing ourselves and rationalizing that it's perfectly normal.

Maybe im just getting old but nothing seems new or fresh. Most stuff i like culturally is pre 2000.

Even porn from 5 years ago was way better.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Shit economy, shit Congress, neverending war in the Middle East, ever-rising inequality...it's basically the second coming of the 1970s.

As someone who is turning nineteen shortly and lives in a somewhat-posh US suburb, I can say this decade was pretty good.

By inequality, do you mean economically? If you meant in terms of social equality, I would disagree that it's rising.
