Hi guys,

So my search for one epic guitar has ended with a natural finished Suhr Modern Satin! I went up with the famalam to GuitarGuitar in Epsom, walked through the door and found a lovely chap called Ben (my name coincidentally) and I explained what I wanted from my guitar and budget and all that. He took me round to the little alcove that was filled with Mayones, Gibson, Fender, PRS and Suhr. Most expensive three walls I've ever seen :P He grabbed me a fender blues Jr as I'm very familiar with the amp and we got cracking. The list of guitars I tried is as follows:

Mayones Regius 6

Mayones Setius 7 (there weren't any 6 strings to try )

Three flavours of Fender Stratocaster

Gibson Les Paul traditional

Gibson SG standard

PRS SE custom 24 hollowbody

A used, vintage PRS Custom 24

And every Suhr Modern Satin they had in stock.

On a previous shopping trip, I also tried out:

PRS SE custom 24

Music Man sterling JP60

Chapman ML1 and ML1 CAP-10

And a Fender MIM Strat

When I picked up the first modern satin, I knew it was something special. Sounds horribly cheesy, but it's true. Before even playing it, it felt amazing. The satin finish (on the body) was great. Made me feel more connected with the guitar. After playing the other guitars I listed above, which all had high gloss necks apart from one of the strats, it was a relief to be able to slide my hand around on the neck again! The craftsmanship is simply exquisite, not a single thing is out of place or even a millimetre off. I started playing is acoustically and was blown away but how it felt. Must have been the stainless steel frets that made bends so easy. I made fewer mistakes playing on it. I was blown away (already said it so many times, but I had no idea it would be so good).

After plugging it in, I noodled about, fiddling with the different tones I could find with the HSH and 5 way config. I absolutely love the 'One in from the neck and one in from the bridge humbucker'/'out of phase' positions or whatever you want to call them. The neck position is smooth and rolling off the tone produced a lovely jazzy tone that I pootled with for a bit. Seeing as I had a couple of American made Fender stratocasters next to me at the time, I compared the 'strat' tones both the strats and the modern satin could produce. Needless to say, the modern satin was superior.

The one downside I've found so far is that at 1600 pounds, not coming with a hardcase is not great. The gig bag is awesome, but I'm not carry this guitar around in it any longer :P Another uber minor niggle is that the rear cover for the trem cavity is not flush with the body. I really don't care, but some people might mind :P

While a lot of the guitars I tried were great and had some great tones in them, the modern satin fit me best and suit what I want to do perfectly. I look forward to the years we will spend together.

Here it is

I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I've tried all the links that imgur provides with the dooberies, with no luck. Gonna try with photobucket this time instead.
