Is there a name for those heavy metal songs that have an "evil" sound to them?
"For example Bat country, or Not ready to die by Avenged Sevenfold."

Both of those songs are classed as Heavy Metal but they have a kind of "scary" sound to them, is it some kind of a sub genre because I have heard a lot of others songs that give out that vibe.

There's really nothing scary about anything in Avenged Sevenfold's catalog. If you want something scary that doesn't go into extreme metal territory, Mercyful Fate would probably be the poster child.

To actually answer your question: no, there's no subgenre based on how "scary" a band is. There are plenty of idiots who get scared of anything heavier than Nickelback, so basing a genre around it would be completely impossible.

I'm not sure if scary is the right word, but what I mean is those songs you would expect to play during a zombie apocalypse or when something demonic happens in a movie.

In which case again, nothing in Avenged Sevenfold's career fits the bill. They are better reserved for minority homosexual poop porn.

It sounds vaguely like a Tim Burton movie. Burtoncore, luckily, is not a thing.

For the record TS you're coming across incredibly ignorant about metal by saying anythng by A7X is "scary"; just some food for thought. I'd love to see your reaction to Ildjarn or something like that if you think A7X is scary...

Yeah, no...I would never find Avenged Sevenfold's stuff suitable for that kind of thing.

A kiddy carnival? Yeah.

Not during the zombie apocalypse, though.

Well considering the Zombie Apocalypse is mainly a pre-teen gamer wet dream then A7X may fit perfectly.

In that light, maybe. But really, AX7 is about as scary as chihauhau.

The damn thing is so cute that it can't even try to be scary.

Again, I probably used the wrong word when I said "scary", I just didn't know how else to explain it. What I am talking about are those songs that have things like organs, choirs, tubular bells in the background to give it a demonic feel.

There's nothing inherently 'demonic' about the musical instruments themselves. What you're describing is the usage of specific chords, scales, and notes that set a mood.

There's no subgenre strictly for it though. I think the only thing that could get close to what you're describing is maybe doom metal or gothic metal.

I few friends of mine came up with the term "middle school metal" to describe that sort of sound. You know, like bands that sound edgy to middle schoolers but not older people.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

Honestly the closest I can think of is Ghost in modern "metal" (Hard Rock)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKxkj4OaAq4

Occult Rock does that kind "evil" stuff. But really Gothic and Doom is going to be the closest you're going to get.

But srsly drop the A7X and listen to the Rec thread if you're actually interested in getting to more metal and not just following your school buddies.

Never got why people say that. It's catchy as fuq.

I know it's cool among metal circles to hate on them but I honestly haven't worked out where it comes from beyond the snide "it's not really metal" comments.

I find it to be a contemporary equivalent of what the hair metal scene was to death metal in the 80s. Sure, 18 to Life was fun to sing along to, but that doesn't make it any less terrible.

My two sheckles.

A7X was a metalcore or post-hardcore band when they started like band such as Bullet for my Valentine or The Devil Wears Prada, but they are more of a hard rock band in their modern albums imo.

I actually like metalcore, and also almost all of A7X
