If you want tve latest check the Seymour Duncan Black Winter. But really, any high output humbucker will do. SD Distortion, dimarzio x2n etc...I think Abbath from Immortal uses JB for example though i could remember wrong. I cant find the source anymore.

A JB. Anything ridiculously high output will just turn your tone into (too much of) a mess. Black metal guitar playing is pretty melodic in its own unusual way, and a JB is trebly and powerful enough to let you do it properly.

What types of black metal are you trying to do anyway? If it's like Burzum or Darkthrone type stuff, your stock pups will be fine.

i would look into a X2N. shit ton of output. but not overly melodic. for emperor i think it would think it would have done it.

500t one of my favorite pickips. cheap and the kick serious ass. 500t is the way to go.

$50 for a 500t beats the others.

I find that my active SD Blackouts provide a nice sound for black metal.

However, for once I find myself wanting to say that the black metal sound is in your fingers. I've been able to get a good BM sound out of almost every guitar I've tried. Even with my old Strat -- just had to turn up the gain. At the moment, I prefer a sound that still allows me to hear each note in big chords -- which means not as much gain as you'd think. Medium output pups are actually pretty nice for that. I had a Dimarzio D-Sonic in a Les Paul awhile back that sounded very good for the BM I play --though the response was almost too tight.

Out of curiosity, what bands have a sound you'd like to get close to? There are a lot of different approaches to BM tone.

Well I use this guitar for e standard/drop d. and i use the vbt700 for d standard/drop c. the vbt has d activators. i guess i could just use that for both. the purpose of grabbing the other ibanez on the cheap was so i didnt have to do that. soo darkthrone, dark funeral, emperor. cheaper the better actually. thanks guys. if anything the d activator should be fine correct?

other ideas come into my scatterbrain lol. its like i need a noise gate really bad. and if i just use the guitar for both tunings, different tensions too lol. i would be able to get somehting to get rid of the insane feedback i always experience in this house.

The D Activators are really modern sounding. They wouldn't be my go to for BM, though yeah they will work. I have a set in my S420.

I was going to suggest the same other than the gibby, I don't know that one.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

i love the 500t. IIRC it comes on the full trim Gibson V's, and Exporters . i have one in my gothic V, and i bought a second to stick in the bridge of my Gibson LP. its got some balls to it, and its not really vintage voiced and not a PAF type thing, its more of a chunkier modern type of thing.

X2N's have the output, but IMO thats it. one of my least favorite aftermarket pickups/
