Today is that fateful day when UG will no longer offer mp3 sharing.

To all fellow UGers,

It's been more than 5 years since we implemented mp3 upload and store functionality to the website. Unfortunately this feature never got popular and kept rarely used for all these years.

It takes server resources and storage space to host all these files, besides many situations when copyrighted materials were posted and caused damage to Ultimate Guitar.

After all these years, we decided to remove this functionality. We are closing UG Mp3 project this coming Monday, September 1th.

I thought we could all take the opportunity to share our recordings on this site one last time.

I uploaded a bunch of stuff, mostly just ideas for songs. Some are better than others. I'd recommend "Space Measurer" or maybe "I Don't Know What I Did Last Summer"

So, last call! Post if you've got recordings you want to be heard

Listened to "Toothpick Under Toenail". Reminded me of Lightning Bolt without the drums. It irked me, I liked it.

I don't think I have it saved anywhere besides here. everyone go listen to it before it's lost to cyber space.

and that's interesting because I didn't know who Lightning Bolt were when I recorded that but I love Beautiful Rainbow now. thanks

Whats this about now? Havent heard this yet. What do you mean, no mp3's on your profile? If thats this case, when did this come about and why?
#15
Is it that hard to click a link to youtube/soundcloud/bandcamp/last.fm etc?

Who am I kidding half of you have a second monitor just for different browser tabs

My UG profile is kind of an embarrassing remnant of my high school self, so I guess I don't mind if they start dismantling it. All of my new music is in the bandcamp and soundcloud links in my sig anyway.

I thought this was going to be a September 11th anniversary thread, but you're right, the fact that UG took away mp3 sharing from user profiles is clearly more important than the greatest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor.

well i'm sorry if i've somehow offended you, NewDayHappy.

as to what's important about today and what's not, it's not for me to say.

by all means, please make a thread about remembering those attacks.

Over 3,000 American lives lost on this day and we instead think of this.

look, you're free to think of whatever you want. i still vividly remember that day. i grew up with it. i would even say that it became a part of who i am in some small significant way. it was a tragedy, no question.

but since we're thinking of death tolls, let's think of the number of civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11 as a result of the "War on Terror". that number, if you're curious, is well over one million. over one million mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, all killed in "retaliation" for an attack carried out by Saudi nationals. i'm not trying to minimize the importance of the horrific day that was September 11, 2001, but i do try to keep it in perspective. the people who have suffered most for those hijackings are Arabs in the Middle East, where there is no anniversary to remember lost loved ones, because everyday is a nightmare.

Great post, this is a discussion worthy of having.

I would start my own thread on this, but I'll leave that up to some UG A-lister, I'm not even B-list man, I'm C-list.

It may have been over 3000 Americans, but think of how many mp3 files are being left behind.
It's a straight up slaughter, show some goddamn respect.
