Hello, I listen to Blessthefall, Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, and The Amity Affliction. I was wondering whats a good guitar for the Hardcore/Hardcore/Medium metal genre. I have around $700 but I didn't want to through it all into a new guitar, So I would feel more comfortable around $400-$500. I might go a little higher if it is absolutely worth it.

Ok,
Budget: $400-$500 ( May go LITTLE higher )

Favorite Artists: Blessthefall, Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, and The Amity Affliction.

Preferences: I like the aggressive version of the les paul shape. It can be seen here: http://*******/9Wif5t ( shortened because it was REALLY long)
Pickups: I have no knowledge in what pickups to use for this or any genre

Location. AZ, USA

I am open for new or used guitars

Current gear: Epiphone Les Paul 100 with a Fender Mustang 1

Hope this helps

Schecter Hellraiser used is an obvious choice.

That's a bit over my budget.

New amp. Don't see a Fender Mustang working for that situation.

OT: Used EC-401 if you can get one in your budget. I'm in the UK so I have no idea what prices are like over there.+
Bass Gear:

Fender Precision 1989 (CIJ Rosewood)
Fender Steve Harris (CIJ)
Lakland J Sonic 5
Epiphone Explorer

The EC401 would fit into your budget, but if you are patient and keep watching you can find the EC1000 going for $400 give or take. That being said, you could also use a new amp. For the money you have $700, you could get a new/used guitar and an amp.
Amp recs: Peavey Tube Vypyr, maybe used Peavey 6505+ (run about $350 on GC used).
Gibson LP traditional and DC standard, SG standard, MIA Standard Strat, Schecter Banshee 7
EVH 5153, Orange TV50H 2-2x12's

Get a used EC1000. Clearly. I see them all the time for $500-550 sometimes cheaper.

Yes, I do have $700 but I do not want to spend all of it.

Not if you buy used (C-1). The ESP is a suitable choice, also.

I would not have ever mentioned you have $700, we like to fill up your budget rather quickly around here. I think the amp will make a greater difference in your overall sound, but it's your money.
That being said the EC-1000 will be better in every aspect than your current guitar.

+1 for a used ESP LTD EC-1000. They are absolutely incredible guitars for the money. They are probably one of the better used guitars in your price range. You could also look at a used Ibanez RGA121, that should fit within your budget.

You will want a new amp eventually. That will make a much bigger impact in your sound than the guitar will. I bought a new Peavey 6505+ 112 combo for $600 a few years ago and have never regretted it.
Guitars:
ESP Eclipse II w/ SD Black Winters
Ibanez S540 w/ DiMarzios
Ibanez RG370DX w/ EMG 81/60
Ibanez RG7321 w/ DiMarzios
Pedals:
Fulltone FB-3
Crybaby Wah
Ibanez TS-9
Amps:
Peavey 6505+

Why, yes, I am a lawyer- thanks for asking!

Another option could be EMGs in the Epi, and go for a 6505 or 5150. If you like the way the Epiphone plays, that is.

I wouldn't waste the time putting EMGs in the Epi. There are too many things that guitar needs replaced, he'd be better off buying another guitar.

Are we under the presupposition of getting a guitar with active pups? Because, although not required, that definitely helps for (x)core. Schecter is good at that, as is Ibanez.

But I would go for a new amp before you get a new guitar. In this article, Ben Bruce of AA says he uses a Peavey 6534 and Peavey cab. http://peavey.com/monitor/sub2.cfm?id=23

Wow, that's expensive. That's a bit, and by "bit" I mean a lot more than I want to pay for

I think he was just throwing the info out there FWIW I found a 6534+ on GC used for $599.
OT: I would get a new amp and guitar. But if your limited to just one get the amp, then save up about $350 and get a new guitar.
Getting a used 6505+ combo will set you back about $400. Great for what you're looking for.

Offer $300, then you should have money left for a better guitar.
