That's a sweet clone (I refuse to call them copies now, because copies implies loss of quality, and a toddler can make a guitar better than Gibson now lol).

I'm so impressed with it. I used to have a 92 Gibbie one (sold it in favour of a touring van :/ ) and when I grabbed this one it was the same feel instantly. This 'block-like' feel on the fretboard but really smooth on the back of the neck. The neck seems thinner to me though.

It feels not exactly smooth in my hand (something I like about it, and this is probably the neck & fretwork) but it plays extremely smooth (maybe this is the string tension).

Gold hardware will GO!

Zhaezzy I will probably record it using my amp at rehearsal, at the moment at home there's not much use, sticking my webcam in front of a microcube

Grats...I was thinking of of grabbing 58 explorer from Epiphone. I would really like to stay usa built, but with the increase in prices and g-force/mini-tune thing going I'm not overly impressed with Gibson right now. How does it play compared to the Gibson one you owned?
#9
It plays really well actually, a lot like the Gibson (if I played it blindfolded first thought would be 'Explorer') but it's a little 'looser', actually now that I think of it maybe it has lighter strings. Hmm.

So it plays like the Gibson with slightly lighter strings
If you want to stay USA, 90s Explorers don't go for alot yet.
If you might go Epiphone, you might be interested, my main reason for Tokai over Epiphone is that my friend has had three Epi Dots, all of which didn't stay in tune very well and needed pickup swaps (really).
The other reasons are that the Tokai was nearby, for a good price, and I loved it when it was in my hands for the first time.

Also some people are concerned about the strap button and reaching high notes; I don't even go near it with my hand as high as possible.

How hard are they to find? I don't think Canada's guitar chain carries them, I am however guitar shopping in Texas in about 3 weeks. I will search guitar center, read lots of reviews on the 58 and all are glowing on the GC site. If I can find an older explorer I will go for it, like I stated a little thrown off by Gibson at the moment. Thanks for the info I will be actively searching to try out one of these as well.

Pfft, both of those posers are pussies compared to a real Explorer wielder.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Ya I remember seeing them first when Toteman came out with his signature model and I remember thinking 'AWESOME guitar... hey isn't that the non-asian guitar player in Dragonforce?'

I want to see Jimmy Page playing an Explorer!

Nice!

Now that i saw the pictures of different players with explorers it reminded me, how is the balance? Is the neck heavy and do you need to keep it up yourself or does it stay nice and upright with a good strap? I wield guitar a lot like Bill in Linkermans picture so neck heavy is a no-no and a reason why i have hestitated on getting an explorer so far.

I own like one U2 album, the one with One on it.

IMO the best looking Explorer I've ever seen is Lzzy Hale's one, google it

I'm not sure, but it's very possible! Who should I ask?

Izzy Hale's Explorer is awesome, again except for the gold pickguard. But love the neck binding
