Hey brothers/sisters,

Not sure if I'm posting in the right section but you'll forgive me.

I'm after advice on switching (and the transition itself) from 6 strings to 7. I play in stupidly low tunings in my band (Drop G#, bass players no hate please) and have always used a 6 baritone. I'm trying to broaden my horizons and purchase a new axe in the 7 range.

I'm borrowing one to get the feel of it but i'm really digging the tone and am pretty comfortable at the moment although looking down and seeing that extra string is throwing me off a bit.

Any advice for a 7 virgin? Will I be able to adapt to 7 fine and/or revert to 6 again if I dislike it?

Also, does scale play as much a part in low tunings on a six in regards to 7 (i.e 7 strings 25.5 able to support G#?)

If you have a baritone scale 6 string and don't play much of the higher notes, you probably wont need a 7 string. But if you really want a 7 string, definitely get a baritone scale one if you could.

There's nothing magical about the extra string(s) on a 7, 8, 9, etc. string guitar. If you need an extra long scale to support the tension you want on a 6, you'll need to do the same thing on a 7.
