Would these help tame the highs and fizz some?
Are these ok to put in without any modding or bias
changes? 120 watt 2x12 xxx combo. Thanks.

Yes, and they will be plug and play.

You surely won't need (or want) to replace all 4 tho .. I can't recall how the pre-amp tubes stack in a XXX as to where the primary gain stages are but start by replacing them one at a time.

I read somewhere that 12at7's put a bigger draw on your power tubes than ax7's don't know if there's truth to this that's why I asked.

try it in the PI slot. I had a 333and I found that a lower gain tube in the PI gave me a better overall tone with less fizz/fuzz

try it out and see if you like it. I like mixing tubes and none of my amps have just one type of tube in the preamp.

If you want to try a few different tubes, check out this list of modern production 12ax7's

might help you figure out what you want/need

Tried tightening up the damping? On my XXX, I get no more fizz with the damping set tight. There is a bunch with it set loose.

Worth a try. It's free.

Why NOS, you don't need to pay the premium, just get new.

NOS tubes are much better than anything new being made. Not so much the sound quality (though many are said to be better) but the build quality and longevity of the tubes is worth it.

Besides NOS 12at7's are pretty cheap like $20ish most places. 12ax7's are the ones that are getting expensive

Here $15 NOS military grade 12at7

^ I found certain tubes made it overly bright. I liked it best with JJ's V1-V3, Sovtek 12ax7lps in the PI.

And Most people equate NOS to costing stupid money but it isn't always like that. So I just wanted to give an example

well. 12at7s put out like 10 times the current than a 12ax7 though lower gain or voltage? something like that. so in a sense they pump more current to your power section? some quality like that why they are better PI spots.

so, my remedy for fizz is a 5751 in v1. and also possibly a 12at7 in PI. that combo should clean up / clarity up.

also, i have experienced that re-issue tug sols are "clean" tubes. clear, clarity, slightly bright. if you dont like a 5751 in there, then a new tung sol may do ya.

some amps dont like a 12at7 in PI. my carvin v3m seems to be one of them.

Thanks ikey that's what I had read elsewhere about 12at7's
possibly putting more wear on your power tubes. And the 5
bucks a piece comment is what I'm buying these nos tubes
for not selling them for. Have a mom and pop electric store across the street they have thousands of nos tubes so I'm
buying those as there cheaper than today's modern produced
tubes.
