Depends on the sound you're looking for, really.

The biggest difference is that the ENGL will be tighter, and possibly sound a bit less warm and natural.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

I haven't gotten to play the Ironball, but if it is like a mini powerball/fireball I'd take the Mesa. But really it is personal preference because both company's make a very good, reliable product.

It doesn't resemble them much.

The powerball and the fireball are both full fledged tight as hell very powerful metal that give you a paradise of tightness and moderate clarity whatever you run through it.
My vintage spec'd tele for example.

The ironball on the other hand sounds much less processed and more of all the things people associate with tube amps.
Warmth, looseness, organicness...

Good vodka vs good bourbon, which one do you prefer?
Good vodka, 'cause whatever bourbon is worse than whatever good vodka.

If you don't have tastes radical as mine the metaphor gives it away though TS.
