So, I just got a bang for my buck by picking up a used 500 for 300 dollars on ebay. Should arrive next week.

My question is, can it do all the 500X can? Same amp models and firmware? I heard it'll get the same updates as the 500X. If not, that's kinda BS, but I think I can live with it.

for the most part it can, the 500x can run more fx at once, but the HD500 should be just fine.
Yes it has all the same modeling features

You'll have to plug it in to your computer via USB and download Line6 Monkey to get any updates you may need, but yes it will get the newest firmware package with all the amp pres and have all the same features as the HD500X, just less processing power.

Short answer: no

Thanks. One of the reasons I got an HD500 is because it can use Variax Workbench with a Variax, HD500X can't. It's stupid.

I just picked up a used HD500X for $300. All the same updates for either. The main difference is that the HD500X has more DSP power, which means that you won't get warning that you've got too many devices active as quickly. Other differences include better switch durability, etc.

I know that the OLD Workbench (1.75 and earlier) that works with the older Variax (your 600, my 500 and 700 Acoustic) won't run on the HD500X.

Will the NEW Workbench HD that works with the newer Variax (my JTV-89F) work with the HD500X?

Yes i've heard they fixed that on the L6 forums. Since I have a 600 I cannot use HD so yeah.
