books are crap learn from vids on youtube i rekon

Just because you can't read doesn't mean they're crap for everyone else.

Most youtube tutors are pisspoor. They only tend to focus on a few techniques or genres and rarely have the production values to teach properly. I'd recommend books by Ed Friedland and Stuart Clayton.

100% recommend Slap Bass Workout by Jim Stinnett. Playing with the Audio CD's along with the book is key. I used this book for myself as well as for teaching students and this is where it brought my playing: http://youtu.be/Xi4V0E9f0Qg?list=PLSDEYLSV9T7IAx7YG9eGR9zFynSPF0JfA

Jim Stinnett is the go-to mentor for anyone who wants to become a successful professional bass player.
