Might look at a pair of Carvin PM12A's. The PM12A has a 12" woofer and a 1" tweeter and a 400W (RMS) amp built in. Theres also a mini-mixer on the back. A pair of these will run you about $600. You can gig anywhere with these -- if you wish. Lightweight, easy to cart around (around 30 lbs each). $279 each. http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/PM12A

If you're looking for something for bedroom use only, check out the various recording monitors. I have a pair of KRK Rokit 8's (100W RMS internal amplifier, 8" woofer) that works pretty well in a small/medium room. About $500/pair. Not for gigs. http://www.krksys.com/krk-studio-monitor-speakers/rokit/rokit-8.html

The small Samson stereo PA powered are also cool, they run around $600 for a pair.
