Hi everyone!
Im looking to pick myself a bass up, possibly a 5 string, that will be used exclusively for hard rock and metal, however i dont know much about basses and im on a fairly tight budget of £300, has anyone got any recommendations? Im not going to consider a squier so please dont say that, thankyou

Everyone here is going to recommend the Squier Vintage modified series jazz bass. Its an awesome bass that works for any genre that fits your budget. You could look into some cheaper Ibanez basses as well or the Esp LTD basses.

An Ibanez SR300 or 305 is a pretty solid choice if you want to avoid Squire.

There really isn't a "metal" bass, unless you're talking about visual quality.

In your price range, Squiers are some of the best basses going (I notice that you admitted you don't know much about basses, or you'd be less critical about Squier). Beyond that, there are Yamahas, Ibanez, etc.

The VM line is really good.
