Devin Townsend is loosely described as Progressive Rock and Metal.

But if you want music that sounds like Devin Townsend you can pretty much only listen to Devin Townsend.

If you're talking about that drum beats, it's a pretty standard electro beat.

... I was talking about the guitar there for the most part ... and I'm thinking that's death metal at that specific point, on both? or am I wrong?

Djent and 2000-2007 era metalcore is the type of music you wanna look for for that kind of guitar playing. Some melodic death metal does that as well.

Lamb Of God, Archons, Parkway Drive, Meshuggah, Intervals, and so on are some bands that do those sort of guitar riffs.

ok, thank you so much. It's not the end all be all of what I'm going for in the end, but nothing better for developing "chugging rhythm than Djent and 2000's Metalcore ... so again thanks you guys >:}

It's not a riffing style that's really all that specific to any one type of metal. It's just a thing that happens in metal quite a lot.

Not seeing the forest for the trees seems a relevant phrase to bring up here.

Hey, either way man... something to work on eh ... Power Cord chugging FTW right?

turn the gain to MAX, SCOOP THOSE MIDS!, and for god's sake don't touch the lower 18 frets right? ROFLMAO!

Thanks though. Would have never guessed Jent (Djent if you want to be all proper)
