What modern metal bands use a P bass? I got a free fender american p bass with quarter pound pickups in it (IM STOKED!) trying to find out what famous metal bassists use a P bass so that I can try to model a tone after them.

Yes. I know that steve harris uses a p bass.

Not necessarily modern, but a great tone nonetheless-Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath. David Ellefson of Megadeth has used a p-bass in the past. Same with Robert Trujillo from Metallica. Admittedly, I don't listen to modern metal, but these are still some good examples.

Didn't John Paul Jones play a P-Bass? Frank Bello from Anthrax also played (I don't know if he still does) a P-Bass along with ESP (his signature model has a PJ pickup configuration).

FWIW Geezer hasn’t used Fender in decades. He plays Lakland basses using his EMG signature pickups which replicate the pickups of 70s Fenders.

Mika Häkki of Monolord rocks a P-Bass.

Troy Sanders' (Mastodon) Jaguar is a P/J, not sure what the blend is though.
