I'm going to get my tubes replaced soon. Do I need to get specific tubes or will most tubes do? How would I know which ones I need?

What amp do you have? That determines what type of tubes you need.

This. That being said, most modern amps used 12AX7s in the preamp and 6L6 or EL34s in the power section. Brands don't necessarily matter.

How long has it been since the last tube swap? If it's only a year or so I'd say you can leave the preamp tubes. Unless you're getting gain drops?

Two JJ 6L6s in the power section should do you fine. Make sure it gets biased too.

I would call Doug's tubes first , tell him your amp and what type of music you play and he can fix you up ..... there are many different tubes with the same 12ax7 that effect tone , you can get high gain , low gain and everything in between .... I just got a tube assortment from him to expeirement with different tubes for different sounds
